Postgraduate Diploma in Public Management

How to Apply

The application process can be approached in either of the following ways :

The two stage approach where feedback is provided. The first stage here is the completion and submission of the application form to the University. This can either be done online or by downloading a hard copy.

To request access to the online application facility, click –--here--- [New Window] and complete the request form.

To download a hard copy of the application form, click –--here--- [PDF; 91 KB; New Window].   You may request a prospectus to be posted to you ---here---[New window]. You will find an application form stapled in the middle of the prospectus.

A provisional assessment of your application will be provided after which, if you are successful, you may proceed to the second stage - the submission of the required supporting documentation.

The University will advise you of their final decision only after completion of stage two.

Alternatively, you can follow the one stage approach by sending your complete application with the supporting documentation so that the University is able to consider a full formal offer. If you wish to obtain a full offer, you will need to submit the following documents to the University office. These must reach the University 17 November 2008 (for a January 2009 start date).

1.      A completed application form

2.      Either the original or a certified copy (see notes below) of your University transcript(s)

3.    A copy of an identity document such as a passport or birth certificate - this does not need to be a certified copy.

4.     A supporting statement of around 500 words explaining why you wish to undertake this programme, and how you see it in relation to your future career direction.

The address these documents should be sent to is as follows:

Centre for Financial and Management Studies
School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS)
University of London
Thornhaugh Street
London WC1X 0XG
United Kingdom

Certified copies

You can submit original documents in support of your application if you wish to do so. However, these may easily be damaged in transit, or during filing, and the University cannot guarantee that they will be returned in pristine condition. A better option is often to send photocopies which are made, stamped and certified by a legal authority - such as a lawyer, solicitor, or embassy - as being true copies of the originals. There is usually a charge for this service, but it is less than the cost of replacing the original documents and it allows you to keep your original documents while the University retain the certified copies. If you are having copies of academic transcripts made, please make sure that you include any explanation of grades printed on the reverse.
